Presentation

My experience involves the sense of pain, and how people will put themselves through it. I'm making a device that will slowly tighten, and the idea is to put it on the nerve between your thumb and palm (the Adductor Pollicis muscle) the idea is that the person will be putting themselves through pain with a final 'score' this will introduce a competitive part to the experience. People will try to one-up each other by getting a higher score and subsequently putting themselves through more pain just to satisfy that little voice in the back of their head telling them to do better than the previous person. There isn't a prize or any kind of definitive 'victory' except the ego boost received from being able to take more pain than someone else. There is going to be some way that the device records how much pain has been taken in the past, providing even more motivation for a person to 'win'.

This is my final storyboard:

Development 5

To get these forms I actually stretched one of the previous models out, and then attached itself to an exact mirror of itself. this doubled the geometry and gave me alot more to play with, so I started trying to really incorperate the female figure into the models and also this idea of it being evlolved and having 'adapted' before, giving the forms sharp edges and "weapons".

Development 4 and First Render

With these forms I tried to make them more grounded. I tried to give them a more (ever so slightly) realistic approach and steer away from the whole "ghost" thing. Some of them are very successful and show the whole disturb thing through aswell as "female" as they have curves that mimic a woman's figure. This was again mainly FFD 4x4x4 but there was also some twist aswell (can you find it?) but with the FFD then used over top of it again.

At this point i tried a render of some of my current images

The big one at the front was the most recent at the time and so I made it the focus of the image.

Development 3

These forms were much more successful in the sense that they seemed alot more 'alive'. forming these grotesque flying specters. I was trying to create a form that would bring up thoughts of a Witch, however these still didn't really seen feminine enough. At this point the only modifier I was using was the FFD 4x4x4 because I still didnt feel like the others would give me the control I needed, and again it took alot of time. what I do like about these forms is that they have a very distinct orientation. You can see what would be a body, head and limbs. However they do seem almost too much like ghosts.

142: First set of Images

This is my first set of 25 images for project 1:

112: Idea Development

My experiment is going to revolve around the idea of pain and how far people are wishing to push it. I'm going to get a micrometer and place it on the nerve between the thumb knuckle and the rest of the hand (adductor pollicis muscle to be exact) and have it slowly tightened until the person can no longer take the pain. The interesting part though is going to be how it is presented; i am going to make it very obvious how tight each person was able to take it. this will mean that when others see it they will want to do more, making the device tighter and putting themselves through more pain just so that they can 'win'. Even if they don't wind up being able to take more pain, they still would have tried.

Development 2

With these models I tried to make them much more animate. Trying to make them something that could be alive and could be seen as a female without being to literal. The only  modifier I used for these models was the FFD 4x4x4 modifier as I was trying to achieve some very specific forms and other modifiers didn't allow enough control. However the problem with using this modifier, as I found out very quickly is that it drags out the development time. Alot. This is because I never used it on the models as wholes, rather just applying it to specific parts of the nodel and doing it systematically with every model.
