All Four: A Happy Family

This is my Final shot of all of my images, showing the decay of the structure from left to right. If you wana read about them just scroll down and you'll have ample words to read. That's what you wana read right? words?

NOISE!!

This is my final "noise" image. It is derivative of the older one that I made a few weeks back but I have tried to control the chaos (even though it is all nearly completely random) by cutting down specific amount of triangles of each size. There are twiny triangles of the two different sizes that i have adding to a total of 40 triangles. 20 of them have the potential to be 50 pixels away from their origins and 20 of them have the potential to be 100 pixels away.

I also did some ridiculous testing, this is probably the 20th image I have saved as a PDF and blown up in Photoshop only to scrap, its the cream of the crop.

Also (just a side note) I like how it kinda looks like shattered golden glass cascading to the ground.

Shaking up the Structure

These are the two images I have chosen to show my structure shaking apart:

For this first one I introduced a bunch or random variables into the co-ordinates of the triangles allowing them to warp within a certain boundary.

For this one I made the warping even more violent, allowing the variables to grow even larger. I also put a while loop in to introduce some smaller triangles at random points to make it look like the structure is starting to fracture off into multiple pieces.

You may notice I abandoned the the color changes. I found that it had the potential to deviate more than I would like so I decided to stay with one pure gold color.

Final "Structure"

This is my final "structure". It follows my precedents andis exactly what I wanted to acheive. To make noise from it I am going to try and essentially shake it apart.

200 Words

You hold in your hand the Pride Vice, an object designed to test your threshold of pain. The point of it is to fit on your hand, in the fleshy part between your thumb and the rest of your hand and be squeezed. Why? You may ask, to test your sense of inner pride. This object is designed to let people try and hurt themselves to no end except to be better than everyone else, they receive nothing in return for their pain except a validating number. One that others will have to beat as they try to do better, putting themselves through MORE pain just so that they could be ”better” than you and get a higher number.

To perform correctly, place the flesh between your thumb and the rest of your hand in the “jaw” of the object with the gears facing upwards, make sure the point coming down (or the “tooth”) from the top is placed on the first bit of flesh you can find in that area (not just skin, the small muscle). This tendon is very sensitive which is why we are using it, it’s harder to keep going. The movements are very minor but if you pay attention to the green gears you will get your score, it’s the number to the far left.

Construction 4

Today I made the finishing touches on the object.
I put the gears in their final places.

I added the point in the jaw of the object, the thing that will hurt them.

I then sanded down each individual part and then spray painted all of the wooden pieces but left the gears green as I wanted them to stand out.

Construction 3

Today I stuck the two major parts together forming the overall form of the object, everything from here on is very minimal comparatively

I then went and cut chunks out of the two parts.
the first was to make room for the gears in the largest part, as they would be housed in it.

The second was to give the fingers room for when they squeezed the device, so that they could comfortably pull it together.

Random Triangle Examples

These three images were made through the exact same means as the last image. The process is completely random so it can be repeated as many times as I want.

Development of Random Triangles

With this I added more triangles, I added another loop that will add 20 new triangles that have the potential to be even bigger than the last group. I also started messing with the colours, allowing them to randomize a little, the red can go up by 20 and the green and blue can become weaker, as i allowed them to go down by 10 each. All of the color changes are completely random

Construction 2

Today I created the palm rest for the base piece

This piece was then stuck onto the base piece, forming the major part of the object.

First Image

Its not much, but here it is, this is my first attempt at coding with black and gold triangles. I have just used while loops to generate a certain number of triangles at random positions on the field, their sizes are also random within a certain margin. If a do use something like this it will be for my noise image

Construction

I started with this piece of untreated pine which is my base material

I then started cutting the first pieces for the body and drilling the holes for the  bolt to allow movement

"Hero Shot" Final Render

Three words: Disturbed, Female, Adapt

I am extremely happy with how my final model turned out. In researching my precedents I wanted to find out what it was that made something disturbing. I found that it was something that does something, gives you a feeling, or makes you think of something that it shouldn't. Thats the reason why creepy children are so much more terrifying, they are supposed to be these happy, innocent creatures that need to be protected. When that innocence is taken away however it becomes incredibly jarring and comes across as what we call disturbing.

With my models I tried doing this by combining the idea of a female and ultimately the female figure with the idea of adaptation and change. Combining imagery of a pregnant woman with the twisted forms in my models makes the forms seem foreign and unnatural.

The material I used was metal, with the shininess turned down. I did this because I wanted the surface to come across like smooth, cold skin almost like a fish, so even though parts of the form may remind you of a pregnant woman, it still looks strange and doesn't really sit right. I chose to make it red because the colour is very feminine, lipstick is nearly all red, and have you ever seen a woman in a bright red dress? However it also has some very dark links aswell. The colour is very violent and also goes with death, blood and desease and is also the colour of 'no' or 'stop'.

I chose the plain black background because I didn't want anything to distract from my model. Several  ideas of backgrounds spring to mind, such as caves or spaceships or desolate planes, but putting them in there would instantly qualify the form. Putting a specific background would mean that it IS a cave creature or it IS an alien. This would instantly allow people to associate it with something and come to grips with it, they would start to understand it. This would take so much of the confusion out of the form that it would lose its impact, it would no longer become different, strange and foreign.

81 Models Final Render

After playing with lighting for nearly a day i have finally come up with what I think is my best shot:

I chose this layout because I wanted it to link back to the idea of disturb and female, and so tried to lay it out to seem as if the models are being born from the heroes "womb". After all the idea of witnessing childbirth can be a little unsettling, and it is something that only a woman can do, so it fits perfectly.

The other forms or her 'children' are sweeping up behind and beside her just because it creates a very unsettling and intimidating image that fits with the theme.

Development 8

These are my last 6 models, with my final 'Hero' too the far right. Every single modification to these was done with one of the three FFD tools and took about five hours to do all six of them. while it may no seem like much there are literally hundreds of modifications between the six of them. This is where I focussed on the female figure the most, making sure that they all had that female 'feel', with the last few even having breasts.

Demonstration

This is something I made in paint, it took about 2 minutes but generally demonstrates what I want to make. I'm also going to experiment with different shades of gold and different shapes, but I want to stick to very basic geometric shapes like triangles and squares.

Development 7

With this set I cut even more out, leaving only the parts that will be in the final model. The "crest" from the previous models turned into a head or "skull". This was again all done with the FFD 4x4x4 modifier and took about 3 hours. The forms all look as if they are folded up and ready to pounce.

one of the features that i tried to focus on during one of the models in this group was pulling wiry thin strands through the 'head' of the form to creat what looks like a mouth.

Development 6

These objects were simplified from the last bunch, as I started taking certain parts off the forms. this gave me less to play with but also allowed my manipulation to be much more focused and direct. I really started focusing on certain parts of the model that from then on became incredibly important, such as the "crest" that alot of the models from this point have, the part that almost looks like a head. I also went right into the models to pull out certain points, to form surface detail such as some of the wrinkles and veins. All of the manipulation in this group was done with FFD 4x4x4 modifier.

First Session of Project One

I have decided not only on my colour combinations, but also on my theme, or precedent.

i first srarted experimenting with black and gold, trying to find a dark rich gold that i liked. after some googling i found a bunch of ways to create gold out of red green and blue, but i wanted to find the one that looked the best with black

i decided on the fourth one

This also gave me the idea for some precedents, i have decided to try and make something that looks almost like gold ore veins:

I want the gold to flow in a very geometric pattern, so I am going to play with triangles and squares and see what i can come up with.

Colour

For our structures we are going to need to implement colour into our image, compared to the last project where we just had black and white. Finding the perfect colour combination is going to be crucial and so i have started searching right from the offset. so far i have two potential colour combinations that i really like.

Black, White and Red:
These three colours seem to work so well together because the red becomes so powerful. with no other bright colours to compete with it stands out so prominantly.

The red also seems to stand out allot more if there isnt as much of it, because it becomes the only source of colour in a sea of shades and draws the eye.

Black and Gold:
This colour combination is so powerful because the gold gets a really powerful, rich appearance when surrounded with black

Interestingly enough though, when white is introduced all of the other colours seem muted and weaker
